The Moon

Earth's Only Natural Satellite

Also called Luna, Selene and Artemis.
Distance: Varies (about 240,000 miles).
Size: 2160 miles.
Surface Temperature: 273ºF to -244ºF.
Orbital Period: 27.3 days.
Rotational Period: Also 27.3 days.
Because the orbital and rotational periods are the same, the same side of the moon always faces Earth. However, it wobbles slightly. This motion, called libration, can be seen in the Lunar Phase Video.
It can be viewed in several formats:
MOV
MP4AVI
